There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
