There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities accompanying the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
