The constant shortage in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in 1 sense more or less baffling, in one way or another.
In recent years, the region was a location where plenty of South Africans would vacation to get away from the extremely confining policies on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Thus, you might think of somewhat of a booming business to satisfy that tourist trade.
At the same time, perhaps it is not really a bewilderment. The city is one of the most bankrupt worldwide, having gone through a distressing civil war (followed by shattering floods) from which it is still, very slowly, bouncing back. This may make a country lesser of a vacation prospect, though there is today a favorable ambiance along various of the territory’s beautiful beaches.
It is also credible that regionally at least, casinos in Mozambique have had to contend with casinos in the lately liberalized South Africa, which includes the notable Sun City founded by the Kerzner family organization.
Here’s a list of Mozambique’s casinos:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are 78 slot machines as well as video poker games, 5 tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, along with a poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, as well as 2 tables for poker and also punto banco.
It is thought that over time the total tourism business in Mozambique will grow dramatically. While the local languages are, of course, African, there is at the same time the portion of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the innovative and developing inception of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldly phenomenon. The country is extremely cheap (obviously, as it is so poor) and as above, has some of the most beautiful beaches on the globe, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the sorts of things that make tourism representatives drool, and as the country advances out of its current slump, it is likely that not only will tourism blossom, but that the list of casinos in Mozambique will grow longer as well.
While the country is unlikely to ever replenish its image as a spot for partying South Africans, as there are now other selections closer to home for them to oblige in, the elevation of a long distance tourism business is being set-up. This would be to accommodate Europeans wanting winter sun, as a break from the distress of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Additionally, to top it off, the greatest prawns (shrimp) across the globe derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
